Today in class we are going to put all of our photoshop skills to the test to see who can emerge as our class “master forger”! We are going to see if you have what it takes to beat the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s official image doctor, and create an image that will truly fool the world!
Your instructions are as follows:
1. Download the two images (missile1 and missile2), and save them to a new folder on your key drives called “Forgery”
2. Open both images in Photoshop, copy and paste “missile1″ into a new .PSD file
3. Fake it!!
1. Download the file by clicking on the thumbnail above and saving the full sized version
2. Open the image in Photoshop (remember it’s a .JPG, what do you have to do first?)
3. Select the rubber stamp tool and erase all water marks from the label. Remember to re-sample often, otherwise your label will not look genuine!!
4. When you have finished, insert your name onto the label, as well as your email address. Be sure to rotate or blend your text as you need to so that it looks natural on the label!
5. Go to “File” “Save for Web…” and save it as a JPG file- Be sure to raise the quality slider on the right side to 100%!!
6. Email your assignment as an attachment to mrcitrin@gmail.com

As you have probably noticed, I change my website every other week… you name it I’ve done it. The problem is, it is getting a little bit old! I am getting bored constantly re-working it, and I am really running out of fresh ideas. That’s where you come in!
I am announcing an eyes on the prize special, just for my summer school students. Use your newly acquired skills in Illustrator and Photoshop to redesign my site (specifics below!) and the winning entry will receive not only my respect, my admiration, and my thanks, but also a prize…. and I’m not talking donuts here! This will be a prize that you will want!
So, if you are up for the challenge, here is what you would have to do:
I am not going to be changing the white content area of the site. I would be willing to change the header and footer areas.
Up for grabs are:
1. New logo
2. New Colors/images/background
In other words, you are altering the “look and feel” not redesigning the site.
All entries are due no later than the end of the day on Friday the 18th of July. See me for more information!
…and that will give you all yet another reason to wish that you had chosen to go to Maui with your friends, where you would be sitting on a beach, sipping a cool drink, and watching all of the beautiful people gliding across the surf at 80 mph making fools of themselves on giant inflatable bright yellow bananas!
In other words… it’s quiz time! So when you are ready to begin, click to download the trace_exam!
These programs are huge however, and in the time that we have, it would be impossible to teach you everything that there is to know about professional grade applications such as these…
Instead, we are going to take a hands-on project approach, and you will be working in groups to create a company (from an digital perspective) from the ground up. You will be using Illustrator to create the logo for that company, Photoshop to create the elements for your website, Flash to make an introduction movie for that website, and Dreamweaver to assemble it all into a professional looking package. Or as some smart person somewhere once said to someone who was trying to learn something… “we learn by doing!”
Several teachers from the Brookline district as well as Industry professionals will be acting as a panel of judges, as you and your group members defend your designs, and try to convince them that your team’s design is the best!
and I have put you together two, a movie version and a photo gallery version. If you missed having your photo taken, drop me a line, and I will make sure you get in on the action…
While it has been crazy, it has also been great fun, and a great privilege to have you in my class! Enjoy your summer break, and good luck to you all next year! Citrin
If you have no plans for this summer, or even if you just have a few spare hours on your hands, the Apple Retail store (yes, the big new fancy one on Boylston St) has a great free series of lessons and events called Apple Camp. You’ll learn hands-on how to make music on a mac, how to edit photos, make great presentations…. and tons more! You even get free t-shirts, and all kinds of other Apple goodies!
If nothing else, it is really great for those of you who are thinking about one day getting a mac, but aren’t familiar with how to use them. It is only for a few hours a day, and as I mentioned, best of all…. IT’S FREE!

In this post, I am going to walk you through starting, configuring, and updating your own blog. Keeping a blog is the easiest, quickest, and most platform agnostic way of maintaining a teacher website, and can also offer you some new and exciting ways to interact with your students!
